Kola NPP Receives International Certificate of Environmental Management System

Kola NPP was issued a certificate of environmental management system (EMS) for the compliance with the requirements if the international standard ISO 14001:2004.

This event was preceded by the certification audit of EMS of Kola NPP, which was held in April 2-6, 2012 by the experts of the international certification body DQS.

According to Director of Kola NPP, Vasiliy Omelchuk, the environmental management system is an environmentally safe management of modern production, where there is achieved a balance between the environmental and economic indicators.

The received by Kola NPP certificate of conformity to the international standard requirements is of three years validity.

In the next few years, there will be held more EMS checks at the enterprise. But this already will be an inspection check up, in which experts will be able to make sure that the implemented at the nuclear power plant system is not a formality, and it gives a real result.

Kola NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is located 200 km to the south of Murmansk on the bank of Lake Imandra. It produces about 60% of electricity of Murmansk region. Currently, the plant operates 4 power units with VVER-type reactors. Each reactor has capacity of 440 MW. Kola NPP supplies power for Murmansk region and Karelia.
