Kola NPP Introduces International Standard for Development of Staff OHS Management Systems

Kola NPP has become one of the first Russian nuclear power plants, which introduced the international standard for the staff OHS management systems development. Since June 1 of the current year, OHS Policies, based on the highest requirements of the international standard OHSAS 18001:2007, have been brought into force at Kola NPP.

This event was preceded by the large-scale work. In May of 2011 the experts of the Central Office of Rosenergoatom Concern and Klinsk Institute for Occupational Safety and Health in cooperation with specialists of Kola NPP developed a mechanism to efficiently identify and assess potential risks in the field of occupational health and safety of the staff, as well as to manage these risks.

A new layout, based on the best domestic traditions of occupational health and safety and progressive foreign experience, allows complying more fully with the rules and regulations for health and safety of staff, carrying out supervision of safety hazards.

ItХs worthy to mention that OHS management system of Kola NPP fully complies with the national standards. But the national system of certification focuses on assessment of work places, whereas the international standard, which is introduced in Rosenergoatom Concern, requires a more thorough assessment of potential risks on every work place of the enterprise with drawing up a plan of their elimination.
