Kola NPP Carries Out Scheduled Special-Purpose Inspection of Operational Safety

On April 16-20, 2012 the Rosenergoatom Concern commission carried out a scheduled special-purpose inspection of operational safety at Kola NPP.

Among the experts of the Central Office of Rosenergoatom Concern, the commission was attended by the experts of Kursk, Novovoronezh and Smolensk NPPs.  

In the frame of the special-purpose inspection, there have been studied generic issues on operational organization, in particular, the allocation of responsibilities for safety at nuclear power plants, provision of the staff with normative documents, etc.

The experts also paid close attention to the issues of operation of the systems important to safety, in particular, availability and record keeping of the operational documentation; changeover switching, inspections and testing of the systems important for safety, and maintaining the operational order.

Similar special-purpose inspections are carried out at all NPPs of Russia as directed by the management of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC.

Kola NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is located 200 km to the south of Murmansk on the bank of Lake Imandra. It produces about 60% of electricity of Murmansk region. Currently, the plant operates 4 power units with VVER-type reactors. Each reactor has capacity of 440 MW. Kola NPP supplies power for Murmansk region and Karelia.
