Kalinin NPP: the power generation of more than 32.53 billion kWh of electric energy is among the most important production tasks of 2017

In 2016 at Kalinin NPP the significant industrial production tasks directed foremost at providing the high level of nuclear and radiation safety were implemented. This was suggested on final production meeting with operating personnel under the guidance of the Plant Manager Viktor Ignatov.

Among the most important production tasks accomplished at Kalinin NPP in 2016 are to run in-process tests on commercial prototype of new construction of TUK-141O nuclear fuel transportation cask. The cask is designed for safe transportation of spent nuclear fuel (SNF) from NPP, as well as for long-term storage.

At power unit No 3 the works on changing the old generator unit and modernization of low-pressure cylinder of turbine No 2 were carried out. These works were executed on operating units of Russian nuclear power plants of such type and the similar plant configuration of machine room for the first time.

The unique nature of the executed works was associated with the usage of portal system for delivery and installation of large-size equipment on proper location.

During 2016, as well as in previous years, the rate of radiation in location area of the Kalinin NPP was under constant monitoring and has complied with natural background level.

In conclusion of the meeting the Kalinin NPP Plant Manager, Viktor Ignatov, noted that among the most important production tasks of 2017 are a provision of safe work of nuclear units on nuclear power plant, an execution of target figure of generated electrical energy in amount of 32,530 million kWh, a carrying out of repair campaign on nuclear units within the established deadlines, as well as a scrupulous compliance with principles of occupational safety culture.

The Kalininskaya nuclear power plant is a branch of the JSC "Concern Rosenergoatom". The station is located in the north of the Tver region in the Udomelskiy area. There are four power units with water-cooled power reactors (VVER-1000) with installed capacity of 1000 MW each in the structure of the Kalininskaya nuclear power station.
