Kalinin NPP: on July 2 power unit No. 2 will be shut down for scheduled repair

On July 2, 2011 at 00:00 power unit No. 2 of Kalinin NPP will be shut down for scheduled repair for 45 days.

Among the basic schedule works which are to be carried out at the power unit there are: reactor dismantling followed by assembly, refueling, operational control of metal, steam generators pipe heater and joint welds, overhaul of GCN Nos. 1,3 (main circulation pumps) and routine repair of GCN-2 and 4.

Apart from the scheduled works there is a considerable volume of modernization works, partially determined by the branch program of the unit capacity increase up to 104% of the nominal capacity and transfer to 18-month fuel cycle.

ТThe high indices of the work of Kalinin NPP achieved in the six months of the year should not only be solidified in the second half of the year, when a repair campaign is to be held at power units. We should also do our best to provide a reserve of electric power generation up to the end of the yearУ, Deputy Chief Engineer for repair Vitaly Trutnev explained. All the works will be performed by Kalinin NPP repair services and General Contractor Р Atomenergoremont OJSC - and contracting organizations.

Kalinin NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is situated in the north of Tver region in Udomlya district. Kalinin nuclear power plant comprises three operating power units with pressurized water reactors (VVER-1000) of 1,000 mW capacity each. Power unit No. 4 is under construction now and is to be commissioned in 2011.
