Kalinin NPP: Visit of Deputies of State Duma of Federal Assembly of Russian Federation and Legislative Assembly of Tver Region.

On May 24, 2012 the production site of Kalinin nuclear power plant (Udomlya, the Tver region), including Unit 4 under the stage of pilot operation, were visited by the deputies of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation - Chairman of the Subcommittee for the Legislative Provision of the Nuclear Power Generation Industry of the Central Electricity Generating Board Vladimir Potsyapun, and Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Science and High Technology Alexey Chepa, as well as Deputy of the Legislative Assembly of the Tver region Vladimir Bayunov.

Speaking about the purpose of his visit, Alexey Chepa said: ТOur main task is to prepare a joint with the Central Electricity Generating Board offsite meeting, scheduled for the autumn session of the State Duma of RF. TodayХs visit to me is knowledge about the work of Kalinin NPP, acquaintance with its management, and, of course, knowledge of the progress of Unit 4. The unit startup attracts not only the citizens of the Tver region, but also the whole country.

ТFor me the purpose of visiting the energy facilities is a monitoring of how the work of the deputy corps and the quality of the created new laws affect the efficient work of the industry. We were interested in this visit, and we are thankful to our colleagues for their willingness to cooperate in such an important area as the improvement of the nuclear power generation industry,У added Vladimir Potsyapun.

During the visit, there was held a meeting of the deputies with the representatives of Rosatom State Corporation, Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC, and the management of Kalinin NPP, where the participants of the meeting discussed the prospects of cooperation in the development of the nuclear power industry, and plans of social and economic development of the Tver region determined by the forthcoming commercial commissioning of Unit 4 of Kalinin NPP. Earlier this month, Unit 4 started a ТPilot OperationУ stage, which was the final part of the set of works on commissioning of the plantХs unit.

ТI saw that today the staff and the management of the plant tend to bring the full power of Unit 4 as soon as possible, in order to provide energy to our country and beyond its boundaries, thus providing economic support to the Tver region and throughout Russia. I have seen this, and IХm ready to tell voters about it,У noted Vladimir Bayunov.

Also at the meeting, Director of Kalinin NPP Mikhail Kanyshev delivered a report on the current progress at the enterprise and about the key tasks in operation of Kalinin NPP, including the implementation of the program on increasing of the unitsХ capacity up to 104 %. Summing up the meeting, Mikhail Kanyshev told: ТThe visit was introductive. The purpose is to create for the short-term a range of issues, representing a certain common interest. These should be the issues that would contribute to both the legislative initiative and the development of technologies in the industry in general and Kalinin NPP, in particular. As a host side, our task was to be as open as possible and to demonstrate that Kalinin NPP operated safely, reliably and consistently, including Unit 4, which nowadays is under the stage of pilot operation, and which has very specific responsibilities: to accomplish all the tests by September 30 and to put the unit into operation.У

During the visit, the participants made a round of a number of facilities of the industrial site of Kalinin NPP.

Kalinin NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The Plant is situated on the north of the Tver Region in Udomelsk district. Kalinin NPP includes four power units with pressurized water reactors (VVER-1000) each one having the installed capacity of 1,000 MW. Implementation of the stage ТPilot OperationУ continues its realization on the 4th power unit, the start-up of which took place on November 2011.
