Kalinin NPP: Representatives of Information Centres of the Turkish Republic Visit Kalinin NPP

On June 27, 2012 as part of the realization of the program of the international cooperation in peaceful uses of atomic energy, the representatives of Information Centres of the Turkish Republic paid an inception visit to Kalinin NPP (Udomlya, the Tver region).



The main purpose of the visit was learning the Russian experience in construction and operation of nuclear power plants with light water reactors (VVER-1000) for further public hearings on Akkuyu NPP project in Turkey.

During the visit there was held a meeting of the foreign colleagues with Director of Kalinin NPP, Mikhail Kanyshev, where the members discussed the issues related to the construction of the nuclear power plant and the impact of the plant on the environment. Attention was paid to the enterprise in the field of public relations and interaction with the population of the city, region, and mass media.

In addition, the guests visited the industrial site of Kalinin Phase 1, main control unit of Unit 4, as well as made a tour to the Public Information Centre.

At the end of the stay, Head of the Information Centre of JSC Akkuyu NPP (Mersin), Mehmet Faruk Uzel said: ТWe work at the ground zero of the nuclear power plantХs construction. At the moment, our job is to build the relationship not only with the Turkish public, but also with the competent governmental departments and agencies. In this regard, we will take into account the experience of Russia, Rosatom State Corporation, as well as the Public Information Centre of Kalinin NPP in implementation of activities in the filed of public relations. I hope that the settlement, where the first nuclear power plant of Turkey to be constructed, will become as beautiful as the city Udomlya.У

Kalinin NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The Plant is situated on the north of the Tver Region in Udomelsk district. Kalinin NPP includes four power units with pressurized water reactors (VVER-1000) each one having the installed capacity of 1,000 MW. Implementation of the stage ТPilot OperationУ continues its realization on the 4th power unit, which start-up took place in November 2011.
