Kalinin NPP Receives Certificate of Compliance of Environmental Management System with International Standard Requirements

On May 16 Kalinin nuclear power plant in addition to the already existing Russian certificate on GOST R ISO 14001-2007 was awarded a certificate of the environmental management system (EMS) compliance with the requirements of the International Standard ISO 14001:2004. This event has become a result of the audit, which took place at the plant on March of this year.

The audit was conducted by the experts of the audit team of the Russian Branch of the International Organization for Certification of Management Systems DQS. This is one of the leading companies of the world; its certificate is valid in more than 40 countries.
 ТPreparation for the audit,У noted Acting Chief of the Environment Protection Department of Kalinin plant Andrey Danilkin, Тis a constant, during one year, work of subdivisions, specialists and managers, aimed at enhancement of efficiency of EMS, a result of which is a decrease to low levels of exposure made on the environment by Kalinin NPP, adherence to environmental legislation, implementation and maintenance of the ecological culture of the enterprise at a high level.У

DQS audits are not only a formal check of compliance with the standard requirements. They are focused on getting an independent and competent assessment, as well as identification of risks and potential for improvement. Management systems provide a fundamental for the maintenance and continual improvement of the enterprise activities performance.

Kalinin NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The Plant is situated on the north of the Tver Region in Udomelsk district. Kalinin NPP includes four power units with pressurized water reactors (VVER-1000) each one having the installed capacity of 1,000 MW. Implementation of the stage ТPilot OperationУ continues its realization on the 4th power unit, which start-up took place on November 2011.
