Kalinin NPP Holds Meeting of Chief Engineers of Russian Nuclear Power Plants

From 9 to 11 July at Kalinin NPP there was held an offsite meeting of Chief Engineers of the Russian operating nuclear power plants and those under construction led by Deputy General Director Р Director for NPP Production and Operation of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC, Alexander Shutikov.



The meeting was dedicated to the issues of engineering cover of NPPs operation and timed to the forthcoming commercial operation of Kalinin 4, which, according to Alexander Shutikov, Тmay be called as a top engineering, where all the technical solutions focused on the unitХs compliance with the modern standards and requirements of safety, reliability and stability.У

The meeting was attended by Heads of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC subdivisions and industry enterprises providing support to the operation of nuclear power plants, as well as spokespersons of the Federal Service for Environmental, Technological and Nuclear Supervision, engineering companies, research and development and design-and-engineering institutions.

Addressing to his colleagues with the greeting word, Director of Kalinin NPP, Mikhail Kanyshev, told: ТIХm very pleased that the ordinary, 71st, meeting of Chief Engineers Р one of the most important events in the life of the operating organization Р is charged to Kalinin NPP. The activity of Chief Engineers is a complicated and self-sacrificing work, which requires responsible decision-making and is the basis for accident-free operation of nuclear power plants.У

The main issues, discussed within the frames of the first day meeting, were related to the operation of nuclear power plants in the first half of 2012 and tasks for the forthcoming autumn-winter period, quality of the technical servicing and reparation of nuclear power plantsХ equipment, as well as occupational safety and health system and safety culture. Chief Engineers analyzed the cases of violations occurred at NPPs for the last six months of the current year, shared the ways and methods of ensuring the safe operation of nuclear power plants and reported on the role of the engineering cover service to their companies.

During the visit the guests made tours to Kalinin NPP power units, including Unit 4, which is arranged for the commercial operation, as well as to a number of other industrial facilities of the nuclear power plant.  

Chief Engineer of Kalinin NPP, Igor Bogomolov, and Director of Kalinin branch of JSC Atomtechenergo, Nikolay Shestakov, delivered a report on the information of key events at Kalinin 4 held as part of the final operations at the pilot operation stage. Chief Engineer told in details on the experience of Unit 4 commissioning. The major part of his report was dedicated to the positive practices of implementation of the new equipment at the unit. 

The peculiarity of the meeting was that it was first held with the participation of representatives of special security unit. The second day of the meeting was opened with the message of Deputy Director for Special Security Р Director of the Department for Special Security of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC, Vladimir Petrov, on the subject ТThe Use of Technical Tools, Equipment, and Innovative ТDualУ Application Technologies both for Ensuring the Physical Protection and for Technological Processes of NPPsУ. The great interest of the guests aroused the exhibition and demonstration of special equipment samples, organized for the meeting participants.
Similar meetings of Chief Engineers are held quarterly. The meeting held at Kalinin NPP resulted in the final protocol required for execution. 


 
Kalinin NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The Plant is situated on the north of the Tver Region in Udomelsk district. Kalinin NPP includes four power units with pressurized water reactors (VVER-1000) each one having the installed capacity of 1,000 MW. Implementation of the stage ТPilot OperationУ continues its realization on the 4th power unit, which start-up took place in November 2011.
