Independent experts will assess the Kalinin NPPХs activity in the area of safety and health protection

On 6 February, 2017 the World Association of Nuclear OperatorsХ (WANO) technical support mission on the subject of ТThe role of management workplace walkabout in order to increase the safety and health protection level. Effectiveness. Main aspectsУ has started at the Kalinin NPP.

The main goal of the mission is to provide technical support to NPP in order to solve operation issues and to increase safety and reliability by comparing the safety and health protection activity performed at the nuclear plant to the best world practices.

Experts from Russia and Ukraine are taking in the mission at Kalinin NPP. It is conducted upon the request of the enterprise within the program of technical support and information exchange of WANO and in accordance with the approved plan of cooperation between Kalinin NPP and WANO Moscow Centre.


ТThe mission of technical support we take part in is the help for the enterprise, the independent assessment of safety and health protection as a part of workplace walkabout, the opportunity to share oneХs experience and have a look at your best practices. I am sure that weХll have an open dialogueУ, the WANO MC Adviser Oleg Semenenko noted at the opening meeting.
The mission will last five days as an assist visit. Experts will visit the process compartments and power unit No 3 buildings, hold interviews with the personnel and then they will assess the plantХs activity in the selected direction.

The schedule of the mission also includes expertsХ presentations of their enterprisesХ situation on selected topic. All the factual information collected in the course of the mission will be introduced as a report to the Kalinin NPP management.
Technical support mission will also be a preparation stage for the forthcoming OSART mission in 2019.

The Kalininskaya nuclear power plant is a branch of the JSC "Concern Rosenergoatom". The station is located in the north of the Tver region in the Udomelskiy area. There are four power units with water-cooled power reactors (VVER-1000) with installed capacity of 1000 MW each in the structure of the Kalininskaya nuclear power station.
