On May 24, 2011 a weekly Headquarters meeting devoted to the preparation of Novovoronezh NPP power unit No. 5 for service life prolongation (SLP) was held.

Under the chairmanship of NPP Director Vladimir Povarov the meeting participants were considering the process of performing the resolutions passed at the previous meeting minutes. In particular, the organization events providing the performance of works within the established time, agreement conclusion, development of engineering and estimation documents, equipment supply and many other issues were discussed.

Much enough was made for modernization of the fifth power unit: distribution devices of 6 kW and 0.4 kW safety systems were changed, distribution devices of 6 kW and 0.4 kW of nominal operation were modernized with replacement of all shut-offs and relay units. The systems of emergency power supply are in full readiness for work. The forth semicanal was mounted and debugged, now it is in operation. On May 31, the second semicanal will be put in operation mode. A great amount of works has been accomplished for modernization of transformer No. 14: panels and devices of relay protection with installation of a second additional protection package were replaced, current distributors and disconnecting switch were replaced, DZO (differential protection of busbar) was mounted. Similar works at transformer No. 13 are to be conducted.

One of important problems of the staff was to ensure readiness of the fuel-handling machine for two weeks before the loading. A hard schedule had been made up for its solution. Forming of a database coordinates with the departure to reactor is in progress. Debugging of manual mode with locks was practically tested. The debugging of semiautomation modes Nos. 1 and 2 and the debugging of automation cycling mode is in progress.

ТToday the main priority is the system modernization which will provide readiness of the unit for fuel loading. All the staff efforts are aimed at solving of the problems of equipment supply and at organization of contracting organizationsХ correct work. That is why strict daily planning using all the available resources has been implemented. In order to perform that, additional repairing personnel was invited and special contracting organizations able to accomplish a number of the work physical volumes were involved. Their aim is to provide the system readiness in accordance with the technological schedule, the nuclear fuel loading into the reactor.
