Delegation of Malaysia Visits Kalinin NPP

On June 26, 2012 Kalinin NPP was visited by the representatives of the Ministry of Energy, Green Technologies and Water of the Republic of Malaysia headed by the Manager of the Office, Mr. Peter Chin Fah Kui.

The main purpose of the visit was learning the Russian experience in construction and operation of nuclear power plants with light-water reactors (VVER-1000) for further cooperation in the field of the peaceful uses of atomic energy.

Welcoming the guests, Director of the nuclear power plant, Mikhail Kanyshev, marked: ТWe had the honor to demonstrate on the example of Kalinin NPP the opportunities of the development of the nuclear complex of Russia. We know that your visit is directly related to the intention of building a nuclear power plant in your country, and we want to wish you success on this path and in achieving of these goals.У

As part of the visit, there was held a meeting of the foreign guests with the management of Kalinin NPP, during which the participants discussed a number of issues related to the construction of the nuclear power plant, experience of personnel training, forms of community outreach, etc. Attention was also paid to the additional measures taken at Kalinin NPP after the analysis of the events at Fukushima NPP in Japan.

In addition, the guests visited the power units of Phase 1 and Phase 2 of Kalinin NPP, main control unit of Power Unit 4, as well as made a visiting tour to the Public Information Centre of Kalinin NPP.

At the end of the stay, Mr. Peter Chin Fah Kui, having thanked the management of the nuclear power plant for the extended to him reception, said: ТKalinin NPP may serve as a good example for the countries, which are planning to construct NPPs, for example, Malaysia. We know that Russia has vast experience of applying the nuclear technology, which can be useful for us. Here I have found all the answers, which IФve been searching for: how the plant constructed and started up the units, how it maintains a high level of safety and reliability of electricity production necessary to supply the consumers.У

According to Mr. Peter Chin Fah Kui, the visit to the nuclear power plant has left a great impression. By the opinion of Head of the Ministry of Energy, Green Technologies and Water of Malaysia, it will become a platform for further discussions and signing of the memorandum of mutual understanding with Russia: ТWe have made a decision on the necessity of developing the nuclear power industry in our country, and I consider that the Russian nuclear technologies may become a model, which we will follow.У

Kalinin NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The Plant is situated on the north of the Tver Region in Udomelsk district. Kalinin NPP includes four power units with pressurized water reactors (VVER-1000) each one having the installed capacity of 1,000 MW. Implementation of the stage ТPilot OperationУ continues its realization on the 4th power unit, which start-up took place in November 2011.
