Concern Rosenergoatom Completes Equipping Russian NPPs with Auxiliary Equipment

Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC has completed equipping of nuclear power plants with auxiliary technical devices totaling 2.6 billion rubles within the frames of the plan of measures on reducing the aftermaths of hypothetical beyond-design-basis accidents. In particular, all of the Russian nuclear power plants were equipped with mobile diesel driven generators in the amount of 66 pcs, as well as mobile pumping units Р 35 pcs, and engine-driven pumps Р 80 pcs.

As part of implementation of special measures, worked out in spring of 2011 according to the instructions of the Government of the Russian Federation after the events at Fukushima NPP, Japan, Rosenergoatom Concern created staffs and working groups on evaluation and preparation of the list of possible scenarios of accidents at NPPs of Russia, with response measures excluding the impact of the beyond-design-basis accidentsХ aftermaths on the population and environment.

The results of work were summarized in the ТAnalytical Report on the Review of Scenarios of Exposure of Abnormal Environmental Occurrences on NPPs of RussiaУ. According to this report, there has been prepared a procurement list of the necessary equipment for the Russian NPPs, which would help to improve the resistance of nuclear power plants to extreme conditions.

The mobile diesel driven generators are the redundant emergency power supply of consumers of the systems, important for safety, and safety systems of nuclear power plantsХ units in case of the beyond-design-basis accidents. Such consumers are the pumping equipment, fittings, auxiliary shutdown rooms, control and measuring devices and automatic equipment, control security systems, lighting systems, and other systems.

Mobile pumping units and engine-driven pumps are designed to provide cooling water from the redundant power supply to the main circulation loops of pile assemblies, at-reactor spent fuel pools, as well as freestanding spent fuel repositories.

Rosenergoatom Concern includes all 10 nuclear power plants of Russia, which have the status of the branches of the Concern, as well as the enterprises ensuring the activity of the power generating company.

In total, at 10 NPPs of Russia, there are operated 33 power units: 17 power units have VVER model reactors (among them 11 units have VVER-1000 model reactors, and 6 units - VVER-440 model reactors of various modifications); 15 units have pressurized-tube reactors (11 units - RBMK-1000 model reactors, four units - EGP-6 model reactors); 1 unit has the fast fission sodium cooled reactor BN-600.

The electric power generation rate of the nuclear power plants of Russia amounts to 16,6 %.
