Beloyarsk NPP: WANO Peer Review

On April 11-12, 2011, Beloyarsk NPP took part in a Corporate Peer Review, which is held at all Russian nuclear plants by the World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO).

The aim of the Peer Review is to analyze the interrelation between Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC and its branches Р NPPS in production tasks solution.

As a part of the Peer Review two foreign experts Р Vice President on Operation of the French company ТElectricity de FransУ Jacques Rigaldo and WANO Executive Director George Filgeit - visited Beloyarsk NPP. They made a beat of the power unit BN-600 equipment: the reactor compartment and turbine hall, block and reserve control panels, diesel and generator units, repair area. The representatives of the plant management and the heads of cross-sectional departments gave the experts detailed explanations and answered their questions.

The experts also conducted an interview with Beloyarsk NPP management and the heads of subdivisions on the activity branches (operation, repair, modernization, personnel service etc.).

The mutual peer reviews at nuclear plants, in the course of which experienced specialists inspect their colleagues in other countriesХ work, that are held regularly, are one of the basic branches of WANO activity. The participation in them is voluntary, moreover Р the very organization under the review organizes the event. Such inspections are of mutual advantage: the colleagues estimate the NPP activity with a fresh look from the outside and provide valuable recommendations, and as well adopt progressive experience from the inspected plants and spread it in their country.

The Corporate Peer Review will have been held at Russian nuclear plants for two weeks. The results will be summarized in Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC on April 22.

Beloyarsk NPP was put into operation in April, 1964. This is the first NPP in the nuclear power industry of the country and the only one with reactors of different types at the same site. The first power units of Beloyarsk NPP with the AMB-100 and AMB-200 thermal reactors have outlived their usefulness. Beloyarsk NPP operates the unique power unit with a fast neutron reactor of industrial power level - BN-600. The BN-800 power unit with a fast neutron reactor is being constructed. The fast neutron power units serve for substantial extension of the fuel base of the nuclear power industry and minimization of radioactive waste due to the closed nuclear fuel cycle.

Timely information about the radiation environment near Russian NPPs and other objects of the nuclear industry is available in the site www.russianatom.ru.
