This was stated by the Deputy General Director of Rosenergoatom Concern Р Director of newly formed branch Management of Facilities Construction Alexander Palamarchuk during the work of monthly Operations Headquarters (OH) for construction of Units 1 and 2, which took place on the building site of Baltic NPP.

Taking part in the work of the OH were Yevgeniy Vlasenko, the Director of the Direction of Baltic NPP under Construction, a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC, the first Deputy Director of JSC NIAEP and Director of Baltic branch Vyacheslav Manokhin, the first Deputy Director for Technical Issues of JSC NIAEP Р Manager of Baltic and Belarusian NPPs Projects Vladimir Belov, representatives of the general design company JSC SPbAEP (The Joint Stock Company Saint Petersburg Research and Design Institute ATOMENERGOPROEKT), and the main contractors.

 ТBaltic nuclear power plant is a strategically important facility both for the region and for Russia in general. The first impressions from visiting the building site were positive. There is no doubt that here are assembled high level professionals, and there was created a competent construction management. We can see a confident progressive motion,У said Alexander Palamarchuk opening the Operations Headquarters. He also stressed that the success of the construction lied in the coherent work that gave reasons to successful performance of 2012 subjects.

The participants of the meeting considered the issues on the progress of Unit 1 construction, discussed the implementation of the plan of the second quarter on development of construction and installation work volumes, as well as works planned for the current year.
 ТThe people working on the building site and building tradeХs specialists are the main component of the construction. Therefore, the staff buildup remains as the main objective for the general contractor, as well as the increased monitoring of carrying out the requirements on security, including the construction supervision,У said the Director of the Direction of Baltic NPP under Construction Yevgeniy Vlasenko.
 He noted that the year was eventful, however the primary event would be the supply and installation of the core melt localization device (CMLD), the so-called Тcore catcherУ, at Unit 1 of the nuclear power plant under construction. CMLD is a device for melt localization. It is situated directly beneath the reactor itself, and is made as a conoidal metal structure with the total weight of 700 tons. Under the current plans of Baltic NPP construction, the installation of the core catcher is scheduled to begin in November of this year.

Currently, the works on reinforcing and concrete pouring of the Unit 1 containment building are underway. The total area of the foundation slab of the building makes up 2,114 sq.m. As of today, the builders have poured 550 sq.m, 1,100 cub. m of concrete. The railway construction is underway as well, and Highway 1 is prepared for the commissioning.

Baltic nuclear power plant was established on February 25, 2012 in Nemansky District of the Kaliningrad region. It is constructed as per the design of NPP-2006, and will consist of two power units with the total capacity of 2,300 MW. Startup date of the first unit Р 2016, the second Р 2018. Baltic NPP is designed to provide electricity to the Kaliningrad region, and for the supply of energy for export. For the first time in the native nuclear power engineering, the private investors including foreign were invited to participate in the project. They may get a share of up to 49 % in Baltic NPP project.
