Baltic NPP Lays First Concrete Foundation of Reactor Compartment for Power Unit 1
On April 21, 2012 Baltic NPP started a construction of the reactor compartment for the Power Unit 1.
Laying of the concrete has been carried out in a continuous mode. It took the builders of the nuclear power plant less than 24 hours, from 05.22 pm of Saturday to 11.00 am of the following day, to lay 1100 m3 of concrete. The works were carried out by the workers of the company Titan 2 under the supervision of the Direction of Baltic NPP under Construction, a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC, and the general contractor JSC NIAEP (JSC Nizhny Novgorod Engineering Company ТAtomenergoproyektУ).
ТThe work of the staff both of the contractor and supervising bodies from the customerХs and contractorХs sides has been carried out day-and-night. Right before the placement, there was provided a check of the poured concrete volume. Concreting of the base plate of the reactor building, as it is called the ТheartУ of the nuclear power plant, was performed at the highest professional level and within the deadlines,У said the Chief Engineer of the Capital Construction Management of the Direction of Baltic NPP under Construction, a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC, Alexander Chebotarev.
ТI note that the works were carried out according to the organized schedule. The similar process at the Unit 1 of LNPP took about 6.5 months, while at the Unit 2 of Leningrad NPP Р 5.5 months, and at the Unit 1 of Baltic NPP it took 4 months and 20 days from the start of reinforcing to the first concrete laying,У noted the First Deputy Director of JSC NIAEP, Head of the project construction of Baltic NPP Vladimir Belov.
Each batch of the concrete mixture, poured out to lay the base plate, was checked by the certificated construction technology laboratory. In addition, there were invited specialists in the field of concrete laying of the leading Russian Institute JSC B.E. Vedeneev VNIIG (All-Russian Research Institute for Water Engineering) for high quality control of works.
ТBefore the start of concreting, it was necessary to put 1.5 thousand tons of reinforcement into the base plate of the reactor building. All the necessary reinforcement items, as well as the concrete itself, are produced on the area of Baltic NPP under construction. On the territory of the construction site, there is built a concrete plant with store houses for concrete aggregates, as well as reinforcing manufacturing. The concrete mixture is supplied to the place of the concrete laying within internal roads of the construction base and site of Baltic NPP,У told Alexander Chebotarev.
The total area of the base plate of the reactor compartment building is 2,114 sq. m. To date, the builders have grouted 550 sq. m of the area. The second and third stages, where the poured volume of concrete of each one will amount to 1,400 m3, are scheduled to begin in a week, when the first concrete of the first pour will gain the acquired strength.
