Balakovo NPP: power unit No. 3 has been shut down for routine repair

On June 1, 2011 at 3:58 power unit No. 3 of Balakovo NPP was shutdown for routine repair for GCN No. 4 (main circulation pump) electric motor replacement.

The power unit shutdown was performed in accordance with the project algorithm and process regulations. The repair is to be completed by July 6, 2011.

At present Balakovo NPP power units Nos. 2 and 4 operate in normal mode, since 08.06.2011 power unit No. 1 is under scheduled midlife repair.

The radiation background in the area of Balakovo nuclear power plant location has not changed and the radiation background values correspond to natural values being typical for the European Part of Russia for many years.     

Balakovo NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is located on the left bank of the Saratov Reservoir, 10 kilometers to the north-east of Balakovo city, Saratov region. The NPP has four power units with updated VVER-1000 reactors (B-320 modification). Each reactor has installed electric capacity of 1,000 MW. The first power unit was commissioned in 1985, the second Р in 1987, the third Р in 1988, and the forth one Р in 1994. Balakovo NPP is one of the largest and advanced Russian energy enterprises, it provides a quarter of electric power production in Volga federal district. It regularly supplies energy for the Central region, Volga region, Ural and Siberia.
