Balakovo NPP: WANO international experts and Balakovo NPPХs workers shared the best practices for operation improvement

From 13 to 17 February 2017 a technical support mission (TSM) of the World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO) had been going at Balakovo NPP. International experts were invited to Balakovo NPP to exchange experience on improving the procedures designed to measure the radiation parameters in the area of free access at Balakovo NPP.

During these four days international experts consulted, shared their experiences, examined documents and did the walkdowns, talked with Balakovo NPP radiation safety department specialists; by going through that they noted the high level of competence among the NPP staff.

ТWANO mission stands for maximum increase of nuclear power plantsХ safety and reliability by exchanging experience and information. The experts of our team did everything that had been requested for Balakovo NPP in the framework of the mission. But this is a mutually beneficial exchange, so weХve also learned practices that we can use at our plant in BulgariaУ, one of WANO experts, the Radioactive Waste Handling Sector Leader of Kozloduy NPP (Bulgaria) Ivan Georgiev says.

As a result of the work the expert team has prepared a draft report with justified recommendations to improve the operation of the plant. After the final approval and modifications of the formulations Balakovo NPP will receive an official document.
For WANO team it is also important to get feedback not only from experts but also from the plant- requestor of the technical support mission. Therefore, in a year after the TSM Balakovo NPP will assess the effectiveness of the recommendations received, assess the extent to which they improve the procedure of radiation parameters measurements in the area of free access of Balakovo NPP.
