A unique gantry crane-transformer designed and installed at the Leningrad nuclear power plant

In the central hall of the Leningrad NPP power unit ?1 a new gantry electric crane was installed to improve the safety of the spent nuclear fuel and storage fuel assemblies efficiency.

Crane was made by the handling equipment named after S.M. Kirov specifically for the LNPP in the framework of the program for the restoration of the graphite stack. It was transformed to improve the safety of fuel assemblies in the tapes storage pool (TSP) and prepare them for loading into the reactor.

The crane was brought into the central hall in parts, assembled in the repair area and installed over the pools cassettes on a specially laid track. It is equipped with special devices from an earthquake. "After the Fukushima events, we understand that the equipment should have even higher reliability. This crane is attached to the rails so that seismic effects will not allow him not to tip over or go off the rails "- said the head of the production area of the LNPP reactor department Paul Gredasov.

In addition, the valve will increase the efficiency of the transfer of spent nuclear fuel in a sealed storage pools. This procedure is associated with the separation of suspensions of fuel assemblies and transfer them to a sealed storage method, which slightly increases the capacity of TSP.

The Leningrad nuclear power plant is JSC "Rosenergoatom Concern" branch. The station is located in the city Pine Pine forest, in 80 km to the west of St. Petersburg on the bank of the Finland Gulf. The Leningrad NPP is the country's first station with RBMK-1000 reactors (uranium - graphite nuclear reactors of channel type on thermal neutrons). 4 power units by electric capacity of 1000 MWt everyone are operating on the nuclear power plant.
