On Power Engineers' Day, Russian NPPs fulfilled the FAS annual plan for the generation of power in the amount of 217.872 billion kWh ahead of schedule

On December 22, 2022, on Power Engineer’s Day, Russian NPPs (branches of Rosenergoatom, the Electric Power Division of Rosatom) fulfilled the annual state task of the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) of Russia to generate power in the amount of 217.872 billion kWh ahead of schedule. In 2021, on the same date, almost 216 billion kWh were generated.

As of today, the generation is already about 218 billion kWh. Such a volume of power generated at nuclear power plants made it possible to save CO2-equivalent emissions in the amount of over 106 million tons (if a similar amount of power was generated by coal generation).

Andrey Petrov, general director of Rosenergoatom: “This year we are celebrating the 30th anniversary of our company and finishing it with excellent performance indicators, having fulfilled the state task for generating power ahead of schedule. In 2022, Russian nuclear power plants, as in the previous period, operated reliably and safely. The main recipe for success was a high-quality repair campaign, during which it was possible to optimize its period by 146 days, including through the use of fundamentally new digital tools.”

Let us recall that according to the results of the last year, 2021, Russian NPPs set an absolute record in terms of generated power, increasing the total output to 222.436 billion kWh (against 215.746 billion kWh a year earlier). By the end of 2022, the goal is to generate power at the nuclear power plants of Rosenergoatom in the amount of at least the target level of 219.504 billion kWh.

Rosenergoatom includes 11 operating NPPs that function as branches, including a floating nuclear thermal power plant (FNHPP) in Chukotka. The share of power generation by nuclear power plants in Russia is about 20%.

Today, energy is the basis for the progressive social and economic development of the country, the supply of industry and citizens. Russia continues to modernize its energy complex, including nuclear power. This work is performed taking into account modern trends in digitalization and the replacement of imported equipment. The share of low-carbon power generation in the Russian energy sector is already about 40%. In the future, taking into account the growth in the share of nuclear generation, it will only grow.

Operational information on the radiation situation next to Russian NPPs and other facilities of the nuclear industry is available on the website www.russianatom.ru.
