A range of works related to the equipment preparation for complex harbor testing goes on at the main floating nuclear power unit (FPU) Akademik Lomonosov that at the moment is situated at Baltiyskiy Zavod – Sudostroyeniye LLC (Saint Petersburg).

At the present time the specialists have completed the assembly of the two reactor unit (RU) systems of the FPU and have proceeded to preparatory works before flushing the systems of the 1st and 2nd circuits (RU). The RU systems flushing is a part of complex commissioning works that are conducted in order to confirm performance reliability of the equipment and the FNPP’s technological systems.

At the same time the workers of Afrikantov OKBM JSC have been conducting the commissioning of the loading complex. The assembly of steam-turbine plant systems (STP) is also in the progress. At the present moment the readiness of the main steam supply system is 100 %, and the readiness of the condensate-feeding system is 98%. Also, the workers of KTZ JSC make complex preparations of the STP equipment - including main generators – for complex harbor testing.

The assembly of the integrated control system of the technical facilities is completed, the complex systems harbor testing - including control from the central control board - is in the progress. The assembly works at all the ship’s service systems is completed; the commissioning of the systems and equipment is in the progress, as well as the works on mooring certificate.
All the works carried out at Baltiysky Zavod are organized in close compliance with the Federal Rules and Regulations in nuclear radiation safety.

At the same time at the FNPP’s basing site – the town of Pevek (Chukotka Autonomous Okrug) - the building of onshore facilities and hydraulic engineering structures (HES) is conducted according to the set schedule. Now, the specialists of Zapsibgidrostroy Trest Company (the general contractor on HES building) have proceeded to driving the pile foundations at the connective area of pier – the main hydraulic engineering construction for safe mooring of the FNPP.

The driving of the piles is in the progress on the landfall area of the pier. Previously, the shore protection works has been completed. After the temperature in the region becomes above zero, the seasonal concrete works and works on overhead structures will start. At the moment there are 110 workers and 30 units of equipment at the HES construction site in Pevek.
The FPU will stay at Baltiysky Zavod until the completion of complex harbouring testing and execution of all the events on preparation to towing operations to Pevek.

The schedule date of the completion and preparation to towing operations of the FPU is the end of 2017, after that the FPU will be handed over to Project manager-developer (Rosenergoatom Concern). And in autumn 2019 the Concern is going to proceed to power unit installation on its proper location, carry out the FNPP testing and put it into operation.

The Floating power unit (FPU) Akademik Lomonosov of the Project 20870 is designed as a constituent of a floating nuclear power plant (FNPP). The plant is developed with the high level safety margin that makes its work invincible for tsunami and other natural disasters. In addition, the nuclear processes at the ships meet the requirements of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and do not carry a threat to environment.

The task on provision the stable power supply to remote territories is of the high priority within the framework of the State Development Strategy of the Extreme North, the Far East, Arctic and the Northern Sea Route Infrastructure Recovery. The implementation of the FNPP construction project will allow us to provide remote regions with the energy, for example Chukotka. Due to implementation of this project the region will be able to obtain a powerful social and economic development.
