Rostov NPP: power unit No 4 will be put into operation in 2017

In 2017 the nuclear fuel must be loaded in reactor of Rostov NPP’s power unit No 4. This is the task that Rosenergoatom Concern’s General Director Andrey Petrov has assigned before constructors and adjusters during his visit to Rostov NPP.

“At Rostov NPP’s power unit No 4 I can note the high level of assembly readiness for the substage 1-A (assembled equipment testing); within its framework the reactor assembly will take place in April, In June we are going to conduct hydrotests of reactor plant, and hot trials of reactor (testing of the reactor with the parameters similar to operational ones) is scheduled for August. To provide these events the constructors have to weld about 40,000 joints. However, specialists of Rostov NPP have obtained a vast experience in commissioning power units. I am sure that Volgodonsk nuclear experts will cope with the task – to commission the unit in time and in due quality”, Andrey Petrov noted.

During the visit the head of the Concern has visited the reactor building and machine room of starting power unit, as well as main control room. Then, within the framework of construction works he has held a working meeting on launch preparation of power unit No 4.

Now the works on flushing the assembled systems to the open reactor are in the process in reactor building of power unit No 4. In the course of this process chemically demineralized water flows to reactor vessel, and, thus, the quality of all the joints of pipelines is checked; feed and bleed system, emergency core cooling system (ECCS), etc. are tested. On completing this process constructors will proceed to reactor assembly and its preparation to testing.

The assembly of turbine is being carried out in machine room, its installation at the barring gear is scheduled for May. This operation will demonstrate the readiness of the secondary coolant circuit to electric energy generation.

The Rostov NPP is an affiliate company for Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is based at the Tsymlianskoe reservoir shore 13.5 km away from Volgodonsk. The NPP operates VVER-1000 reactors with the installed capacity of 1000 megawatts. The power block No.1 commenced commercial operations in 2001, with the second and the third power blocks to follow in 2010 and on September 17, 2015, respectively. The power block No. 4 is currently under construction.
