The Balakovo NPP held a key event, which started in July repair campaign. Setting on its regular place of the new generator stator was successfully implemented tat power unit №2. Technological operation which has never been done before at such a huge power units in Russia, took half an hour and required maximum concentration of experts’ experience and strength for preparing and conducting repairs.

Replacement of the stator on a new will enhance equipment reliability and operational safety of nuclear power plant and will modernize the generator and allow to carry active power of 1100 MW, which is on 10% higher than it was before.

The success of the operation largely contributed to the thorough preparation. Even before the repair works installers worked out all the actions together, raising the layout of the stator without the weight.

Later, with the help of special traverses, which strength was also tested in advance, the stator weighing more than 330 tonnes was raised to a height of about 29 meters and moved to a regular place (elevation 15 m).

Specialists from the NPP "Kozloduy" looked after works on replacement of the generator stator. They have specially arrived from Bulgaria to adopt a unique experience of Russian colleagues. A month later the Bulgarian nuclear scientists will do exactly the same work.

"At the site of the Balakovo nuclear power plant we have managed not only to witness a unique complex operation, but we have asked questions to experts, who have shown openness and shared subtleties of the key stages of the replacement of the stator," - commented the Chief mechanic for repairing performance of the NPP "Kozloduy" Andrew Krasnocharov.

Note, that the project for replacing the generator stator at the Balakovo NPP is implemented under the program of extending service life of power units. It will be completed by the end of the repair works at the second unit, tentatively in October.

Dismounted stator will exhaust at the station for almost thirty years, moved to a place of temporary storage.

The experience gained by the specialists of the Balakovo NPP will be applied in carrying out similar works at other nuclear power plants in Russia and abroad.
