27.01.2020  THE KOLSK NPP INFORMATION AND PUBLIC RELATIONS ADMINISTRATION

In 2020, the Kola NPP will continue working on joint projects with European countries as a part of the Rosatom’s international cooperation program

A project meeting comprising the representatives of the Swedish Radiation Safety Authority (SSM), the Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority in Finland (STUK), and the Norwegian Institute for Energy Technology, Halden (IFE) took place at the Kola NPP (an affiliate of the Rosenergoatom Joint-Stock Company, a part of the Electric Power Division of the Rosatom State Corporation).

Such meetings are held on a regular basis as a part of the cooperation agreements between the Rosenergoatom Joint-Stock Company with the leading industry companies in Northern Europe, the goal of which is to discuss and agree on joint projects.

‘Even though nuclear power has its own national specifics, it is a shared achievement of the humanity that opens the doors for blessings of civilization in many countries. The cooperation on an international scale helps us to both exchange technology innovations and breakthroughs and to establish a trusting and transparent environment’, Vasiliy Omelchuk, the director of the Kola NPP, noted.

A bright example of this cooperation is a seminar on using operational experience that took place at the Kola NPP at the same time. It featured several representatives of the STUK, the Loviisa and the Olkiluoto NPPs (Finland), and the Leningrad NPP. For two days, the Russian and Finnish nuclear power experts presented their reports and speeches, exchanged their opinions, familiarized themselves with how the workshops and the departments of the Kola NPP function.

The cooperation agenda for 2020 lists a number of other training seminars to be held at multiple sites around the world covering several aspects of safe nuclear power operation.

The international cooperation will also continue in the context of development and introduction of intelligent operational data analysis systems, upgrade of the equipment designed to control water chemistry and construction material conditions, and the radiation safety projects.

The cooperation between the Kola NPP and their counterparts from neighboring countries started back in 1993 and now boasts over 30 of successfully implemented projects.

Kola NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom JSC (a part of Rosatom’s largest division – the Electric Power Division). The Plant is situated 200 km South of Murmansk at the shore of Lake Imandra. It generates about 60% of Murmansk Oblast electric power. It has 4 power units with VVER reactors with capacity of 440 MW each. Kola NPP is the supplier of electric power for Murmansk Oblast and Karelia.
