Rosenergoatom receives awards from the Vernadsky Fund marking its achievements in the realm of environment protection

The Rosenergoatom Joint-Stock Company and its affiliate company, Kalinin NPP (city of Udomlya, a part of the Rosatom Electric Power division) were awarded the Vernadsky National Environment Protection prize for their contribution into the environment safety and became the winners of the 15th ‘Vernadsky National Environment Protection Prize’ competition.

The announcement of the competition results and the award ceremony for the Vernadsky National Environment Protection Prize took place in Moscow on December 17, 2018.

Leading state and public figures took part in the ceremony, where the contribution of all nuclear power industry specialists into the environment safety and nature protection was noted. The most proficient contributors in this area received special prizes from the organization committee.

For example, the Rosenergoatom Joint-Stock Company’s project ‘The international competition of juvenile photography ‘In nature’s hugs’ received a special prize as a winner in the nomination ‘Social and environment protection initiatives’. This is a major Russian-Hungarian project involving children aged 14-17 who live in the cities where Russian nuclear power plants are based.

The project ‘The ecological skeleton (ecological network) – a mechanism of maintaining environmental sustainability in the Kalinin NPP area’ held by the Kalinin NPP won the ‘Science for environment’ award. During the project course, an environment protection skeleton was formed, which serves as a basis for environmental stability in the area where the Kalinin NPP is located. The project outcomes laid the foundation for the Tver Region Governement to introduce the natural landmark certificates.

The nomination of ‘City environment’ was dominated by the project of the Polyarnye Zory city non-governmental organization uniting the Chernobyl NPP disaster cleanup workers ‘Chernobyl-Atom’, which was implemented under the auspices of the Kolsk NPP and the city authorities. The name of the project is ‘The public initiative of building a recreational part in the city of Polyarnye Zory’. Lots of people have actually participated in establishing a recreational park, which was soon dubbed by the locals as ‘Our Park’.

It is important to say that environment protection and responsible usage of natural resources are top priorities for the Rosenergoatom Joint-Stock Company and its affiliate nuclear power plants.

Rosenergoatom JSC is a leading enterprise of the largest Electric Power Division of Rosatom State Corporation.
