Rostov NPP: the final stage of pre-commissioning works – the reactor unit equipment review – has started at the starting power unit No 4

The operational service specialists have started the final stage of pre-commissioning – the review of the main equipment of Rostov NPP power unit No 4 reactor facility (RF).

Describing this important stage, the Head of the Reactor Department of the Phase II of Rostov NPP Oleg Vysotskiy said, “The RF equipment review stage is a strictly regulated and mandatory operation included to the program of power unit physical start-up preparation (the start of fuel loading into the reactor). It is necessary to make sure that after the hot trial, the reactor facility’s main equipment is fully prepared for operation.”

At the present time, we have begun the process of decompression of the reactor facility vessel. After that we will extract the fuel assembly imitators (FAI) to check the condition of the vessel and its internal devices from the inside.

Also at the review stage, we will carry out pre-operational control of the main metal and welded joints of the equipment and pipelines of the systems of the facility’s primary and secondary circuits.

“The results of the Review will become the basis for the further work of the Rostekhnadzor Commission”, said Aleksey Deriy, the Vice-President for Projects in Russia of JSC ASE.

The result of the Commission's work should be an official permit for the physical launch of the fourth unit, which is planned by the end of 2017.

The Rostov NPP is an affiliate company for Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is based at the Tsymlianskoe reservoir shore 13.5 km away from Volgodonsk.
