The WANO technical support mission’s examining of the performance indicators has finished its work at Kursk NPP

On 24-28 April, 2017, upon the request of Kursk NPP the technical support mission of the WANO MC studying the System of the NPP Performance Indicators (PI) worked at the nuclear power plant.

The specialists of the Kursk, Leningrad, Kalinin and Novovoronezh NPPs in cooperation with a team of international experts from the Kozloduy (Bulgaria), Paksh (Hungary) nuclear plants and the WANO MC have thoroughly studied the recommendations of the international organization on this important subject and practical experience of the Moscow Center nuclear power plants.

“Our goal is to maintain Kursk nuclear power plant's indicators at least at the worldwide average level”, the Deputy Chief for Production, Technical Support and Quality at the Kursk NPP Alexandr Semchenko said. “In order to achieve this, it is necessary to expand the areas of use for NPP Performance Indicators in the daily plant’s operation, and to increase the personnel’s competence and motivation to achieve better results. The technical support mission of the WANO Moscow Center helps us to achieve this.”

According to Alexandr Semchenko, the expectations of Kursk NPP specialists related to the international mission were justified. They received real skills in the application of the Performance Indicators in their work.

“Within the framework of this mission, a useful exchange of experience took place,” Andrey Podoprigora, the Head of the WANO MC PI program, said. “In particular, the Kozloduy and Paksh NPPs’ examples on working with Performance Indicators, and the WANO system of indicators were given. This information will be useful both in daily work and while preparing the Kursk NPP for the WANO MC Peer Review in November 2017.”
