The assembly of the compressor station equipment of Leningrad NPP’s power unit No 1 under construction is completed
In the combined gas building of VVER-1200 type power unit No 1 under construction the assembly of the plantwide compressor station process equipment is completed. In the nearest future the facility will be connected to a voltage that in turn will give a start for carrying out of the full-scale commissioning works on this equipment.
Yuriy Kocherov, the General Foreman of Remenergoresurs JSC, “All the systems and the equipment of the compressor station undergo preoperational testing and adjustment. The results of the testing must prove that the equipment is assembled well, and its characteristics correspond to the designed values. First, we will carry out the 72-hours compressor trial, and conduct its full testing. Also the pipelines connecting the compressor station’s main process equipment will be pressure tested”.
As Nikolay Evlanov - the Deputy Head of the Support System Shop of Leningrad NPP-2 – said, the compressor equipment is constructed for compressed air supply for process purposes of the nuclear power plant. In addition, compressed air is required for carrying out the pneumatic test on containment of VVER-1200 type power unit No 1 reactor building.
“To execute this operation we require a big volume of compressed air that will be generated by the most powerful of six compressors of combined gas building – its productivity will compose 12,000 m3/hr. The compressed air will be delivered through the pipelines to the containment to create there the required pressure. The trials must confirm the reliability and containment of the internal and external reactor containment dome. During the operation a double containment dome will exclude the radioactivity breakthrough to the environment and will serve as physical protection of the reactor building from external effects”, the Acting Head of the Supply System Shop of Leningrad NPP-2 Nikolay Rusakov explained.
The Leningrad NPP is an affiliate company for Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is based in the city of Sosnovy Bor, 40 km to the west from Saint Petersburg at the Gulf of Finland shore. The Leningrad NPP is the first Russian nuclear power plant having RBMK-1000 reactors (uranium-graphite channel-type thermal neutron reactors). The NPP exploits 4 power blocks with the electric capacity of 1000 megawatt each. Also, pursuant to the NPP-2006 project, 1,2 VVER-1200 power blocks included into The State Atomic Energy Corporation ROSATOM long-term plan are being constructed. Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC is the owner and developer of the project. Holding TITAN-2 is the primary contractor. ATOMPROEKT is the general designer.
