Rostov NPP: the readiness of starting power unit No 4 turbine is 90%

The turbine assembly is almost completed at the fourth power unit of Rostov NPP. According to the Chief Engineer of VdMU LLC Viktor Sivolapov – the representative of the organization that assembles the turbine room equipment – the readiness of the turbine is 90%. The closing of high-pressure cylinder with protection cap is one of the final operations before placing the turbine generator on the turning gear.

“All four turbine cylinders are closed. In order to place the turbine on the barring gear we have to adjust pedestal and thrust bearings and carry out the turning gear examination. In total the works on thermal-mechanical assembly of turbine room equipment are ahead of their schedule, and the risk of works’ failure is almost eliminated”, Viktor Sivolapov thinks.

At Rostov NPP’s power unit under construction the turbine with capacity of 1100 MW is being assembled. In May 2017 it is going to be assembled completely and placed on the barring gear. The placing of the turbine on the turning gear shows the readiness of the second circuit equipment for electric power generation.

The power block No. 4 is planned to be launched in 2017.

The Rostov NPP is an affiliate company for Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is based at the Tsymlianskoe reservoir shore 13.5 km away from Volgodonsk. The NPP operates VVER-1000 reactors with the installed capacity of 1000 megawatts. The power block No.1 commenced commercial operations in 2001, with the second and the third power blocks to follow in 2010 and on September 17, 2015, respectively. The power block No. 4 is currently under construction.
