WANO started partner inspection at the Rostov nuclear power plant

Second planned inspection by the World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO) began its work at the Rostov nuclear power plant on June 22, 2015.

It is attended by representatives of the Czech Republic, Ukraine, Armenia, Russia. The head of the work team is the safety inspector of the Czech company CEZ Jaroslav Vokurek.

The main task of re-partner check is to assess the work of the power units ?? 1 and 2 in terms of the implementation of the WANO recommendations given during previous mission areas: organizational structure and administration of the production, operation, repair, engineering support, radiation protection, chemical technology , operating experience, fire safety and emergency preparedness.

Both sides - experts and nuclear scientists - note that this partner check will confirm the safety of nuclear power plant operating units and will improve the production process.

Management of the Rostov NPP is confident that the international experience aimed at ensuring reliable and safe operation of the power units will be fully used on the site.

During the week the WANO experts are checking management process, becoming familiar with the current implementation of the planned activities in the departments and services, carrying out surveillance in the workplace, reading the documentation of the units and conducting interviews with personnel.

The Rostov nuclear power plant is a branch of the JSC "Concern Rosenergoatom". The nuclear station is located on the bank of the Tsimlyansk Reservoir in 13,5 km from Volgodonsk. There are two power units with VVER-1000 reactors with an installed capacity of 1000 MWt operating at the nuclear station. The power unit No. 1 was put into commercial operation in 2001, the power unit No. 2 – in December, 2010. Physical launch of the power unit ?3 was in November 2014, energy launch - un December 2014. The power unit ?4 is being constructed.
