The Leningrad NPP under construction has recently been visited by the specialists from the «Bushehr» NPP, Iran. It was the second time when nuclear specialist from Iran occurred at the building site. Fist time the construction area attracted the managers of the «Bushehr» NPP. The second meeting was arranged for the heads of operation and maintenance departments, who had also an opportunity to examine the building site itself and have a closer look at the full-scale simulator of the first power block of the Leningrad NPP under construction.


«Russian specialist took part in creating the «Bushehr» nuclear power plant by providing training for many Iranian colleagues, - the chief engineer of the Leningrad NPP under construction Oleg Ivanov mentioned at the beginning of the meeting. – This is a great example of successful cooperation and collaboration. And we are ready to continue the dialogue  with the Iranian partners, as well as to share our experience, knowledge and practices, worked out during the realization of the most promising modern national nuclear project – the project of «NPP-2006, according to which the main power block of the Leningrad NPP with a VVER-1200 reactor is being constructed».

The foreign delegation was mostly interested in getting information on the specifications of the power blocks under construction, the algorithm of scheduled preventive and service maintenance activities regarding the NPP equipment.


The arranged technical visits are intended for business development in compliance with the «NPP service abroad» policy and are coordinated by the common integrator JSC «Rusatom Service». During the meetings nuclear specialist from Iran gradually study Russian colleagues’ experience of construction new power blocks in Russia.

At the moment Iran and Russia are having negotiations on contracts for building new power blocks at the «Bushehr» NPP, and the Iranian specialists hope to implement the acquired experience on their own construction site.

The Leningrad NPP is an affiliate company for Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is based in the city of Sosnovy Bor, 40 km to the west from Saint Petersburg at the Gulf of Finland shore. The Leningrad NPP is the first Russian nuclear power plant having RBMK-1000 reactors (uranium-graphite channel-type thermal neutron reactors). The NPP exploits 4 power blocks with the electric capacity of 1000 megawatt each. Also, pursuant to the NPP-2006 project, 1,2 VVER-1200 power blocks included into The State Atomic Energy Corporation ROSATOM long-term plan are being constructed. Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC is the owner and developer of the project. Holding TITAN-2 is the primary contractor. ATOMPROEKT is the general designer.
