The Rostov nuclear power plant: the engine driver – the inspector took part in maxi - marathon

The Engine driver inspector of turbine shop of the Rostov nuclear power plant turbine department Yury Kurnosov became the participant of 18th maxi - marathon in protection of nuclear power.

This year the maxi - marathon passed in historical area of France – Normandy, at the passage La-Mansh coast. Part in it was taken by more than 50 athletes from Russia, Switzerland, France, Hungary, Italy, Spain, Mexico. The «Rosenergoatom» concern was represented by ten athletes.

In two days workers of the nuclear industry overcame two stages – 75 and 96 kilometers. The purpose was to remind society and the responsible persons making political decisions, on a role of the nuclear power in environment protection, creation of workplaces and strengthening of energy independence of the states.

«Maxi marathon is a message to people of the planet from professionals of the nuclear industry, - Yury Kurnosov told. – Distance, of course, is not small, and in its overcoming is the most important, I consider, to overcome myself. Someone with it was helped by will power, to someone – a good phisical shape. There weren't withdrawns. It says a lot».

The route of the amateur athletes passed, including, through the nuclear power plant «Flamanvil» where at marathoners the meeting with a management of nuclear station took place. Athletes at AREVA company nuclear fuel reprocessing plant finished.

Maxi marathon is the largest sports project, which implementation is initiated by the World recommendation of workers of the nuclear industry. The international undertaking in 1996 actively was supported by the Russian labor union of workers of nuclear power and the industry, the Russian sports and sports society «Atomsport»and the industry entities. Maxi marathon is carried out in the different countries where there is nuclear power: in France, Belgium, Hungary, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Romania, Germany, Russia, Sweden, Bulgaria, Lithuania, Cuba, Japan. Two maxi -  marathons passed in Russia - in 2001 and 2005.



The Rostovskaya nuclear power plant is a branch of JSC "Concern Rosenergoatom". The nuclear station is located on the bank of the Tsimlyansk Reservoir in 13,5 km from Volgodonsk. At nuclear station two power units with VVER-1000 reactors with an installed capacity of 1000 MWt are operated. The power unit No. 1 is put into commercial operation in 2001, the power unit No. 2 – in December, 2010.
