The Rostov NPP: testing containment began at the construction site of the power unit ?3

At the construction site of the Rostov NPP power unit ?3 specialists of the KSC "Atomtechenergo", JSC "Sesame" and curators from the reactor department of the Rostov NPP started testing containment for leaks and strength.

This test is used to identify and, if necessary, to correct latent defects of the installation and is an important measure in ensuring environmental safety adjacent to the station site.

The technical condition of structures and systems of sealed enclosures will be checked by excessive internal pressure of 4.6 kg cm2.

Currently containment zone is pressurized to 3.6 kg cm2 and within the test pressure buildup continues.

Start-up of the power unit ?3 of the Rostov NPP is scheduled for 2014.

The Rostovskaya nuclear power plant is a branch of JSC "Concern Rosenergoatom". The nuclear station is located on the bank of the Tsimlyansk Reservoir in 13,5 km from Volgodonsk. At nuclear station two power units with VVER-1000 reactors with an installed capacity of 1000 MWt are operated. The power unit No. 1 is put into commercial operation in 2001, the power unit No. 2 – in December, 2010.
