The Kola NPP completed the second day of large-scale emergency exercise

The main objectives of the second day of the ERE, according to the scenario, were to provide heat removal from the reactor under conditions of total station blackout and carrying out the evacuation in the satellite town of NPP - Zori.

"The exercise scenario is quite complicated, but we worked out it completely, - said the head of emergency operations, the director of the Kola NPP Vasily Omelchuk. - We have confirmed the relevance of our chosen technology, operation of emergency equipment and personnel readiness to manage emergency situations. "

For the first task at the site of the Kola NPP special equipment has been deployed: portable diesel generators and pumping systems, pumps. Operational team work demonstrated a unique ring system of pipelines, which in case of emergency served to dampen water from reactor plants and the spent fuel pool. This system was created at the Kola nuclear power plant after the Fukushima events. It is equipped with electric heating and keeps working in the conditions of the Arctic, as well as a seismic design.

In "Rosenergoatom Concern" a lot of attention is attached to emergency response and preparedness to work in emergency situations, so after the accident at the Fukushima nuclear power plant, we have strengthened the security of mobile equipment, - said the head of the ERE, Deputy General Director of the «Rosenergoatom Concern» Alexander Shutikov. - On the Kola NPP, as well as other nuclear power plants of the Russian Federation, the mobile equipment was delivered by Concern during 2011-2012, and today we are convinced of the correctness of that decision and of the equipment. "

In Polar Zori a training evacuation of the population has been conducted after the discovery of conditional local spots of contamination by the evacuation of the city commission. Extra evacuation center was deployed in the city's recreation center. Here newcomers were recorded, mother and child room was organised, a medical center worked, information service and the service issue of personal protective equipment operated. The shuttle transport of the nuclear power plant was accompanied by special vehicles of alarm services evacuated citizens from the Polar Dawns.

Attracted to the work of the Russian Defense Ministry troops NBC showed sanitization of personnel and vehicles paragraph special treatment in the area of nuclear power plant.

The Kolskaya nuclear power plant is a branch of JSC "Concern Rosenergoatom". The station is located in 200 km to the South from Murmansk on the shore of the Lake Imandra. It develops about 60% of the electric power of Murmansk region. There are 4 power units in operation with reactors of type VVER 440 MW each.
