Technical Universities of Country Are Awaiting Target Undergraduates for Kola NPP

On June 14 in the Public Information Centre of Kola NPP there passed a presentation of assignments under the program of the target contract training of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC for school students of the Murmansk region. 

In 2012, 49 school leavers of Apatity, Kandalaksha, Kovdor, Monchegorsk, Murmansk and Polyarnye Zori will enter 9 best technical universities of Moscow, St. Petersburg and Petrozavodsk to get nuclear professions.

Selection of high school students, who received target assignments, took place in December of 2011. The NPP academic contest on physics and mathematics gathered in High School 1 of Polyarnye Zori about a 100 pupils from the entire Murmansk region, having identified the best among them. 

Handing of the target assignments completes the cycle of career guidance activities of 2011-2012 at Kola NPP. More than three thousand school students of the region took part in the scientific, educational, patriotic, environmental and energy-saving projects of the transpolar plant.

“Already no one has a doubt that our future lies with the nuclear industry. And the proof of this is not only the increasing concernment of school leavers in technical professions, but also the increasingly sounding news about the plans for the construction, breaking ground and commissioning of new power units. The need for young professionals in the nuclear industry is high. Hundreds of students, which today are enrolled in the program of the target contract training, already in few years will form a new occupational shift at the Russian NPPs, and our enterprise is not an exception,” noted Deputy Director of Kola NPP, Igor Kutuzov.

After the presentation of assignments, the specialists of the Public Information Centre in details answered the questions of school students about the target selection, and consulted on professions in demand of nuclear power plants, and organized a tour on the Information Centre of the plant.

Kola NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is located 200 km to the south of Murmansk on the bank of Lake Imandra. It produces about 60% of electricity of Murmansk region. Currently, the plant operates 4 power units with VVER-type reactors. Each reactor has capacity of 440 MW. Kola NPP supplies power for Murmansk region and Karelia.
