Smolensk NPP: a seminar on the topic “The Human Factor Management” has been held


From February 7 to 10, 2011 a training seminar on the topic “The Human Factor Management” was held at Smolensk NPP as a part of preparation to OSART IAEA mission that is to be organized at the nuclear plant in 2011 upon request of the Government of Russia. This is an important event in the field of nuclear power peaceful use, practiced by the states – participants of IAEA all over the world.

Jan de Tremere, Doel NPP (Belgium) expert, shared with Smolensk atomists his work experience in the nuclear field: defined the stages of the program of human factor management realization, introduced them the methodology, instruments and the ways of their efficiency estimation. The expert attended Smolensk NPP scientific and training subdivision where he watched the process of the training conducted on a full-scale simulator.

International experts acknowledged “The Human Factor Management” project, being performed at Doel NPP, the best practice of OSART mission having taken place in 2010 at the nuclear plant.

As Vladimir Volondin, the leader of Smolensk NPP working group on human factor management, noted, the Belgium colleagues’ experience adapted to SNPP reality, will allow implement the most effective methods of personnel mistakes preventing.

OSART mission is qualified to perform an objective estimation of the reliability and the experience of Smolensk NPP operation in accordance with international standards. It is aimed at further development and perfection of nuclear plants security by means of progressive experience spreading. OSART mission organization is a demonstration of openness and priority of the questions of security in nuclear plants operation.

Smolensk NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. Every year SNPP supplies to the country electric power system at the average about 20 bln kilowatt-hours of electric power equal to almost 13% of power generated in Rosenergoatom Concern and to more than 80% of that generated by the power plants of Smolensk region.
