Smolensk NPP: Day of Memory and Grief in Desnogorsk

On June 22, 2012 in the city of Smolensk power men and nuclear engineers, in Desnogorsk, there passed flower tributes and laying of wreaths on the beds of honors of soldiers fallen in the Great Patriotic War, and buried on the Field of Memory near the Mound of Glory.

Taken part in the ceremony were the employees of Smolensk NPP, other enterprises of the city, representatives of the Administration, pupils and students. They paid tribute to the fallen with a moment of silence, and took part in the action “The Candle of Memory”.



The Field of Memory in Desnogorsk was established in 1999. For some last years the search elements of Desnogorsk raised remains of hundreds of the Red Army soldiers and buried them with military honors. Dozens of names of soldiers, missed in action, were returned from unbeing.

Today the search elements seek for relatives: Medved Vladimir Illarionovich, draft place – Belgorod regional military commissariat, Kamyanets-Podilsky region, Belgorod district, Ukrainian SSR.

Nosach Mikhail Ivanovich, born in 1921. Draft place: Fastiv regional military commissariat, Ukrainian SSR, Kiev region, Fastiv district, village Koschiyevka.

Ostashevskiy Stanis Yulyanovich, born in 1920, called up by Shepetiv regional military commissariat, Ukrainian SSR, Kamyanets-Podilsky region, Shepetiv district.

These soldiers fell in 1941. Still they are missing. The search elements of Desnogorsk discovered among the remains their registered medallions.
