Rostov NPP: cycle race of atomic scientists is over

Cycle race atomic scientists along the route “Volgodonsk - Caucasian Mineral Waters”, devoted to the 10th anniversary of power unit ? 1 of the Rostov NPP and the 66th anniversary of the Great Victory is over now.


Representatives of the Rostov, Beloyarsk, Leningrad, Novovoronezhsky and Balakovo NPPs have passed through the settlements of the Rostov Region and the Stavropol Territory, have held a meeting in Esentuki and dwelt on the safety of atomic engineering to the local residents.


The sportsmen have covered a distance of almost 500 kilometers for five days of the cycle race. The city of Esentuki became the route terminal point. On the main square of the city there was held a solemn meeting devoted to arrival of the cyclists. The representatives of the city administration and local residents met the atomic scientists. 


As was said by organizer of the cycle race, Master of Sports of the USSR, Deputy Director for HR of the Rostov NPP Gennady Fomenko, it was significant, that the cycle race was held at the level of Rosenergoatom Concern JSC. “First of all, it is a possibility to communicate to the colleagues from different NPPs and to exchange experience with them. It would be desirable, that every year the number of participants of the cycle races is increased”, - Gennady Valentinovich said.

The Rostov NPP was the organizer of the cycle races on the Balakovo, Novovoronezhs and Zaporozhye NPPs. Last year the sportsmen- atomic scientists have made a cycle race to the Mamayev Kurgan in Volgograd and have devoted it to the 65th anniversary of the Great Victory and the 65th  anniversary of the nuclear branch. Rostov NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The nuclear power plant is located on the bank of the Tsimlyansk Reservoir 13.5 km far from Volgodonsk city. The nuclear plant has two operating power units of VVER-1000-type reactors with installed capacity of 1,000 MW. Power unit No. 1 was put into commercial operation in 2001, power unit No 2 - in December, 2010.
