Rostov NPP: Veterans of Nuclear Power Plant Visit Capital of Kalmykia

On September 8, 2012 former employees of Rostov NPP – veterans of the nuclear power plant – made a visiting tour to Elista. The trip was organized by the Council of Veterans of Rostov nuclear power plant.

The purpose of the visit was to acquaint the tourists with the historical and cultural values of the Kalmyk people, as well as communicate with each other.

The participants of the trip visited the main sightseeing of the capital of Kalmykia – the temple of Elista “The Golden Abode of the Buddha Shakyamuni”, which was the largest Buddhist temple in Europe. One more interesting place visited by the guests from Volgodonsk was the Orthodox Kazan Cathedral.

In addition, the retirees had a fascinating tour to the Republican Museum of Local Lore, where the unique exhibits telling on the life, household activities and history of the Kalmyk people were collected. In the end of the trip, the sightseers visited the City-Chess.

The veterans were pleased with the cultural program and expressed thanks to the management of Rostov NPP for the organization of the event. Many of them visited Kalmykia for the first time. “The capital of Kalmykia is a different world,” shared her opinion Yevgeniya Pedyakina, an excursion participant. “I have got an ultimate experience from the trip. We had a great tour guide, and through her stories I learned a lot about this extraordinary nation living close to our area, but so different in its culture and traditions. I thank the management of the nuclear power plant and Council of Veterans for such interesting events.”

The Council of Veterans is actively involved in the programs of social support to atomic veterans. It organizes “cultural campaigns” to theatres, circuses, concerts and excursions to the cities of the region. This year about 50 veterans rested and improved their health in spa resorts of Caucasus funded by the company.
