On August 21, 2012 at the stadium “Trud” (“Labor”), Volgodonsk, there took place a solemn ceremony of opening of VI Children and Youth Sports Festival “NPP Junior-Sport – 2012” for prizes of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC, dedicated to the 20th anniversary of Rosenergoatom and 75th anniversary of the Rostov region.



Eight nuclear power plants of Russia as well as Baltic NPP under construction and the Concern Rosenergoatom sent their teams to the satellite city of Rostov NPP to participate in the sports festival. The competitions are held in nine sports: mini-football, streetball, track and field athletics, swimming, table tennis, tennis, chess, bowling and darts. On the last days of competitions, on 24th of August, the young athletes will participate in the sports competition “School Sports Day”.

Advisor to Deputy General Director of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC, Oleg Zheltov, Director of Rostov NPP, Andrey Salnikov and Mayor of Volgodonsk, Viktor Firsov, addressed to the participants with parting words.

“We are pleased to welcome to the land of Don the participants of VI Children and Youth Sports Festival “NPP Junior-Sports-2012” for prizes of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC! For the second time Rostov NPP becomes a host of this great sporting event. And we are twice pleased that this festival takes place in the anniversary for our Concern year,” noted in his speech Director of Rostov NPP, Andrey Salnikov. “More recently the regular Olympic Games have finished. Russia has shown a worthy result. But in the future we need to become stronger, and I hope that you, fighting today for prizes of Rosenergoatom Concern, will get on the Olympic podium at the next Olympics”.

Highlights of the opening ceremony of the festival were: the parade of teams, which was led by bikers of Volgodonsk bike-club carrying flags of all the Russian nuclear power plants, lighting of the festival fire, exhibition performances of students of the section of hand-to-hand combat of Rostov NPP sports club and young gymnasts of the children and youth sports school Nr. 1 of Volgodonsk. The main surprise for the festival participants and spectators at the stadium terrace was a friendly football match with the participation of the Russian stars of the stage of the football team “Starco” and team “Atom”, which included representatives of Rostov NPP, deputies and Administration of Volgodonsk. The team “Starco” included such famous Russian musicians and athletes like Ilya Averbukh, Alexander Shevchenko, Pierre Narcisse, Sergey Belikov, Mikhail Grebenschikov, Grigory Gladkov, Sergey Kiryakov, and others. The match was commented by Sports Commentator of the First Channel, Viktor Gusev. The game finished scoring 6:2 in favor of “Starco”. But, as People’s Artist of Russia, Dmitry Kharatyan, noted, the match was won by everybody, so as the main purpose of the match was the charity event held by FC “Starco” after the opening ceremony of the sports festival.

The football Club “Starco” was founded in 1991 under the initiative of a musician, composer and leader of the group “Zodchiye” (Architects), Yuri Davydov. The main task of the club is not only promotion of sports and healthy style of life, but also charity activities. The club “Starco” transfers the funds collected as part of the charity event to children requiring expensive medical treatment,” noted Viktor Gusev. “The action has a name “Under the Guise of Good”. At the expense of collected funds, 20 children from Volgodonsk, Tsimlyansk and Volgodonsk areas will be supported by the best specialists of child health. Certificates are approved by the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation. The Charity Council of the action pays attention to the fate of every child to be treated under our guise!”



And at night, on the square of Victory, there was held a concert of the Russian stage stars – participants of FC “Starco”, which lasted more than two hours.
 
Rostov NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The enterprise is situated on the bank of Tsimlyansk Reservoir at 13,5 km from Volgodonsk. NPP operates two power units with VVER-1000 reactors with the capacity of 1,000 MW each. Power Units 3 and 4 are nowadays under construction.
