Rostov NPP: Bike Ride on Occasion of 20th Anniversary of Rosenergoatom Concern Starts in Volgodonsk

On June 4, 2012 the VI annual bike ride, timed to the 20th anniversary of the Concern, started in Volgodonsk under support of Rostov NPP.

This year the bike ride route is: Volgodonsk – Novovoronezh – Kurchatov - satellite towns of Rostov NPP. For 10 days, the cyclists – the workers of Rostov NPP - will have to overcome 1210 km. The managers of the plant and of the trade union of the plant, city Administration, Rostov NPP employees and mass media came to see them off. The team is headed by Deputy Director of Rostov nuclear power plant for Staff Management, Gennadiy Fomenko - Master of Sports of the USSR, regular participant and organizer of bike rides of the nuclear power plant.

Shift fitter of the Thermal Instrumentation and Control Shop, Grigoriy Kostyaev, assessing his participation in the bike ride, stressed: “It’s not only the effective way to promote the development of the nuclear power industry , but also a good opportunity to congratulate the Concern with its jubilee, meet and talk to colleagues of other plants.”

The bike ride organizers noted that it was the sixth bike ride of Rostov NPP, which means that the company has developed a good tradition.

“What any enterprise is strong with? It’s strong with its glorious traditions. The bike ride passing in May-June of each year is a tradition, which emphasizes the nature of our plant, its commitment to a healthy way of life, and it is a right way,” told Director of the plant, Andrey Salnikov.

He wished the athletes - the nuclear engineers a successful and accident free bike ride. Chairman of the trade union of the plant, Aleksander Soroka, joined to the congratulations of Director, wishing to show fortitude and will power in overcoming the hard way.

Archpriest, Dmitriy Denisenko, served a short prayer for the well-being of the affair, aspersed the cyclists with holy water and bestowed a blessing: “A happy journey! God speed!”

On the way, the athletes will meet with citizens of a number of settlements, appearing on the route, and tell them about Rostov NPP, Rosenergoatom Concern and the nuclear power industry.



Rostov NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The enterprise is situated on the bank of Tsimlyansk Reservoir at 13,5 km from Volgodonsk. NPP operates two power units with VVER-1000 reactors with the capacity of 1,000 MW. Unit 1 was commissioned in 2001 and Unit 2 – in December 2010. Power Units 3 and 4 are nowadays under construction.
