Rostov NPP: Athlete of Nuclear Power Plant Becomes All-Round World Champion

From May 29 to June 3, 2012 Sochi held world championship in power lifting and benchpress. It was attended by nearly 1,000 athletes. 19-year-old instructor of the sports club of Rostov NPP, Maksim Bogdanov, won the first prize and became the all-round champion in powerlifting in the weight category 75 kg.



The champion of Rostov NPP competed without additional outfit, and in exercise “benchpress” has set a record of Europe, having surpassed last year’s record in his weight class, and having lifted the weight of 155 kg. Thus, Maksim not only fulfilled Master of Sports standard, but also won the Championship gold.

Coacher of the athlete, Leonid Yanborisov, told that he was proud of his pupil’s achievements, and hoped for the further victories of Maksim. “Volgodonsk hasn’t so many athletes who won golden medals at the World Championships. I’m proud that I managed to grow a champion of international fame,” said the coacher.

Maksim himself is not satisfied with what has already been achieved. “Ahead is a lot of work, and I hope I’ll have new victories,” noted 19 year-old athlete. “I plan to move forward, develop and improve my results.”

Rostov NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The enterprise is situated on the bank of Tsimlyansk Reservoir at 13,5 km from Volgodonsk. NPP operates two power units with VVER-1000 reactors with the capacity of 1,000 MW. Unit 1 was commissioned in 2001 and Unit 2 – in December 2010. Power Units 3 and 4 are nowadays under construction.
