Rostov NPP has passed the WANO preliminary Peer Review
WANO Moscow Centre* expert group has completed its work at Rostov NPP. From 3 to 5 April the international experts have been working with the documents of the starting power unit No 4, holding interview with the operational personnel, and also they have visited the Training Department and power unit No 4 construction site. It is the WANO’s preliminary visit before the scheduled for August pre-commissioning Peer Review.
The main purpose of the upcoming pre-commissioning Peer Review in August is to assess the readiness of the unit and its safety system for the commissioning.
“Rostov NPP at a large made a good showing. It is important that for last 15 years the nuclear power plant has accumulated an experience not only in safe operation, but also in commissioning new power units. This is very good”, the Head of the WANO MC Technical Support Mission Kim Hyo Jin noted following the results of the previsit.
Power units No 3 and 4 are the power units of Phase II of Rostov NPP. Power unit No 3 passed the pre-commissioning Review from the WANO in 2014.
The power block No. 4 is planned to be launched in 2017.
The World Association of Nuclear Operators (the WANO) was founded by operating organizations in 1989 for experience exchange on operation practice. The association is not a supervising authority.
The Rostov NPP is an affiliate company for Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is based at the Tsymlianskoe reservoir shore 13.5 km away from Volgodonsk. The NPP operates VVER-1000 reactors with the installed capacity of 1000 megawatts. The power block No.1 commenced commercial operations in 2001, with the second and the third power blocks to follow in 2010 and on September 17, 2015, respectively. The power block No. 4 is currently under construction.
