Rostov NPP has become the ecological contest laureate

Rostov NPP has become the laureate of all Russian contest “100 of Best Russian Organizations. Ecology and Ecologic Management”. Plant Director Alexander Palamarchuk was awarded the honorable title of “Ecologist of the Year”.

The awarding ceremony was held as a part of the May conference “Ecology and Production. Prospects for Development of the Environment Protection Ecologic Mechanisms”, that was organized in St. Petersburg.

The best from the best in the field of ecology were defined according to the following criteria: dynamics of the sources invested into environment protection measures, reduction of negative influence on the environment, existence and fulfillment of ecologic programs. At the contest Rostov NPP represented Rostov region and had been put forward by Rostov region Employers Union.

Rostov NPP was awarded the diploma of the contest laureate and a gold medal. Plant Director Alexander Palamarchuk was awarded the badge of “Ecologist of the Year – 2011”.

As Head of Rostov NPP Department of Environmental Protection Olga Gorskaya noted, the secret of their success was that the nuclear plant administration had permanently been paying much attention to the problems of ecological safety since the first days of NPP operation. It is necessary to mention that annually the enterprise spends about 150 mln rubles on environmental protection.

Rostov NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The nuclear power plant is located on the bank of the Tsimlyansk Reservoir 13.5 km far from Volgodonsk city. The nuclear plant has two operating power units of VVER-1000-type reactors with installed capacity of 1000 MW. Power unit No. 1 was put into commercial operation in 2001, power unit No 2 – in December, 2010.
