Rostov NPP firefighters took part in regional life-savers competitions

On February 9, 2011 the ninth crew of fire department No. 37 took part in annual summarizing competitions among the subdivisions of Rostov region possessing a right to rescue operations conducting.

According to the plan, the firefighters were to save the people conditionally involved in a car accident. The crew work was assessed by commission of EMERCON Main Department of Rostov region. Special attention was paid to the efficiency and professional resourcefulness of the fire life-saving team members.

Rostov NPP team of life-savers successfully performed the task, having given the result of 10 minutes and 3 seconds. In 2010, a similar task took 24 minutes.

According to Vladimir Rodin, head of the crew, the organization of such competitions is indispensable. “Today we see that our life-savers’ skills are improving with each year. During the competitions they face the challenges that can happen at any moment in everyday life. And they honorably cope with such challenges”, - he underlined.

18 teams took part in the competitions all in all. The common results will be summarized on February 28, and the best subdivisions will be determined on the same day. The winners are to vindicate the honor of Rostov region at the competitions held among the teams of Southern Federal District.

Crew No. 9 of fire department No. 37 was founded for liquidation of emergency situations on the nuclear plant territory and within its five-kilometer area. In 2009, the fire department received the license for rescue works conducting. This is the only fire department in Volgodonsk possessing the right. 

Rostov NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The nuclear power plant is located on the bank of the Tsimlyansk Reservoir 13.5 km far from Volgodonsk city. Power unit No.1 which was put into commercial operation in 2001 has the operated VVER-1000-type pressurized water reactor with installed capacity of 1,000 MW. Construction of power unit No. 2 was resumed in 2006. The energy start-up of power unit No 2 was performed on March 18, 2010. The permit for commercial operation was signed on December 10, 2010.
