Rostov NPP Holds Traditional Russian-Ukrainian Meeting

From May 28 to June 1, 2012 Rostov NPP under the cooperation program of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC and National Nuclear Energy Generating Company of Ukraine, Energoatom (NAEK) held a traditional meeting of specialists in licensing.

The meeting was attended by the representatives of Rosenergoatom Concern, Energoatom NAEK, Baltic, Beloyarsk, Kalinin, Novovoronezh, Rivne, Rostov, South Ukraine and Khmelnitsky NPPs.

The main issue of the meeting was the topic of licensing support of the nuclear power industry facilities of both countries at the stages of construction, commissioning and operation of nuclear power plants.

The importance and relevance of licensing issues in modern conditions, when the requirements of supervision bodies stiffen more year after year, and especially after the accident at the Japanese nuclear power plant Fukushima, were marked by both sides of the meeting. And in this case, according to Viktor Korniyuk, Deputy Head of the Department of Licensing of Rosenergoatom Concern, the departments of licensing of generating companies and nuclear power plants act as a kind of outpost in the construction and operation of nuclear facilities.  

The seminar included presentations of licensing procedures used at nuclear power plants of both countries.
Also the Ukrainian and Russian experts visited the sites of Units 3 and 4 under construction of Rostov NPP, and the training unit of the plant, where they familiarized with the experience of training of specialists for nuclear power plants, as well as operating Units 1 and 2 of Rostov NPP.

The outcome document of the meeting was the minutes, the basis for which was readiness of both sides to cooperate fruitfully and to use the best achievements of the world practice in licensing.

Commenting on the results of the meeting, Deputy Chief Engineer for Production and Technical Activity and Quality of Rostov NPP, Aleksander Nezherya, stressed: “The exchange with the good professional practice of work at similar events, based on close communication with colleagues, and an open and constructive dialogue, is always useful and important for both sides.”



Rostov NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The enterprise is situated on the bank of Tsimlyansk Reservoir at 13,5 km from Volgodonsk. NPP operates two power units with VVER-1000 reactors with the capacity of 1,000 MW. Unit 1 was commissioned in 2001 and Unit 2 – in December 2010. Power Units 3 and 4 are nowadays under construction.
