Rosenergoatom: the second bulk carrier with building materials and equipment for the worldХs first floating nuclear heat and power station (FNHPS) was unloaded

On September 24, 2016, the team has completed the unloading of the ТViacheslav AnisimovУ bulk carrier that has delivered over 3 thousand tons of building materials and equipment for the worldХs first floating nuclear heat and power station (FNHPS) in the city of Pevek (the Chukotka Autonomous Region).

On September 16, the Pevek port had already accepted the first set of construction equipment delivered by the ТKonstantaУ and ТAnisimovУ motor vessels.

This weekend, on September 24-25, 2016, the representatives of the General Contractor (OOO ТTrest ZapsibgidrostroyУ) and the Customer (The FNHPS Construction Administration) worked on all the necessary construction site arrangements in accordance with the general layout. Thus, the specialists have assembled and launched over 20 units of construction equipment, including 7 units of the top-notch piling equipment suitable for operation in the harsh Arctic climate.

On September 26, 2016, the team completed the check boring to specify the siteХs geological parameters and to get the actual mark of the permafrost soil bedding level. Based on the outcomes of the boring, the work plan and the technological maps will be amended. On Tuesday, September 27, the team worked on the control sheet pilesХ driving into their final grade.
The next motor vessel bringing building materials with the total weight of around 3.5 thousand tons is expected to be the one named after Gennadiy Tsygankov, which is to arrive on October 3rd, 2016.

At the moment, the key task of the construction workers and the customer is to supply 100% of all materials required during the internavigational period.

The Peveka port will accept its last vessels in this season on October 20-25. The next vessels expected to visit this northern port are only expected end July 2017.

The floating power block has been undergoing basin trials since July 2016 to verify its working capacity and compliance with the project equipment and systemsХ parameters. The basin trials are planned to be completed by late October 2017. Afterwards, the FNHPP ТLomonosovУ will be fully finalized, dispatched to its operation point via the Northern Sea Route, and connected to the coastal utilities constructed in the Pevek port. The power block should be ready for transportation by late 2017. Rosenergoatom is planning to start its installation at the designed sport in September 2019, which is to be followed by FNHPPХs trials and operational launch.

The Rosenergoatom ConcernХs affiliate company, the Floating nuclear and heat power stationsХ construction and operation administration, is the owner and the developer of the main FNHPP

The floating power block named after Lomonosov and constructed pursuant to the 20870 project is designed to operate as a part of the floating nuclear and heat power plant (FNHPP). The latter is equipped with KLT-40C reactor units that can produce up to 70 megawatts of electric power and up to 50 Gcal/hr of heat power during its normal operation, which is enough to support a city with over 200 thousand dwellers.

The floating power block can be operated in the Far North and the Far East. The main floating power block named after Lomonosov is being constructed for the floating nuclear and heat power plant in the city of Pevek located in the Chukotka Autonomous Region. This power block is the worldХs first project for a mobile transportable low-capacity power block. Its main goal is to supply power to major manufacturing companies, port cities, and the offshore oil and gas platforms.

The floating power block with the displacement capacity of 21.5 thousand tons can be used as a water distiller producing up to 240 thousand cubic meters of water daily. Its designed life span is 35-40 years. The reactors can be re-charged every 2.5-3 years. The power block can be handled by a team of around 70 people.

The FNHPP is conservatively loaded, with its safety margin exceeding any possible threats and making the nuclear reactors invulnerable to tsunamis and other natural disasters. Besides, the nuclear processes at the vessels comply with all IAEA standards and do not pose any danger to the environment.

The Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC comprises all 10 nuclear power plants in Russia bearing the Concern affiliate status, as well as the enterprises catering for the generating companyХs operations. In total 34 power blocks are in operation on 10 nuclear power plants (excluding the 4th block of the Beloyarsk NPP (BN-800) and the 6th block of the Novovoronezh NPP which are at the stage of trial operation at the moment): 18 - with VVER-type reactors (including 12 power blocks with VVER-1000 and 6 power blocks with VVER-440 of different versions); 15 Р with channel reactors (11 power blocks with RBMK-type reactors, 4 power blocks with EGP-6 reactors); 1 power block with a sodium-cooled fast reactor (BN-600). The total installed capacity of all power blocks is 26.24 GW.
At the moment, the Rosenergoatom NPPs account for 18.6% of the whole electricity output in the country.
