Rosenergoatom: Moscow Holds Russian-French Seminar on Results of Supplemental Safety Evaluation of Power Units at Nuclear Power Plants

On July 11 and 12, 2012 Moscow held the Russian-French seminar on exchange of information on the results of the supplemental safety evaluation (stress tests) and examination of the reports on the stress tests of NPPsХ units in Russia and France.

In the seminar organized by Rostekhnadzor the participated on the Russian side were heads and leading experts of Rostekhnadzor, NTC YARB (Scientific and Engineering Centre for Nuclear and Radiation Safety), Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC and JSC Atomenergoproyekt; on the French side Р heads and leading experts of the Regulatory Authority for Nuclear and Radiation Safety (ASN), EDF company, and the French Embassy employees.

Both sides shared the general information on the conducted in Russia and France stress tests and examinations of the reports on the stress tests in the following areas:

Ґ           Protection of units against extreme external actions of natural character;
Ґ           Preparedness to manage accidents with complete blackout of auxiliaries of NPPs and loss of heat removal by the ultimate heat sink;
Ґ            Preparedness to manage severe accidents.

It was noted that the procedure of supplemental safety evaluation of NPPsХ power units and results of the work performed are very similar in both countries, which is confirmed by the correctness of the chosen path.

In addition, there have been expressed common interests in carrying out the similar event in 2013 on the study of the issues of implementation of post-Fukushima plans of measures on safety improving at NPPs of Russia and France.
