Novovoronezh NPP: Contest on Knowledge of Labor Safety Rules

Novovoronezh NPP held a contest on knowledge of labor safety rules, which was attended by the winners of the preliminary stages of competitions at their subdivisions Р workers and engineering and technical employees of the plant.

The main task of the contest was to give a 90-minute written answer to 20 questions on occupational safety and health at NPP. Each question was assessed on five-point system. The largest number of points a contestant could score was 100.
While the committee chaired by Chief Inspector of NPP, Viktor Zabava, allotted the marks, the experts of labor safety rules took part in the business game led by Chief Engineer of OSH Department, Lyudmila Rozina. The questions for the contest, held in the format of ТWhat? Where? When?У game, came from all the subdivisions of the nuclear power plant. The outcome of the business game Р 9:1 in favor of experts Р the contest participants.

The committee reviewed the work of the contestants and named the winners. Among the workers, the first prize went to Engineer-Inspector of the turbine house of Turbine Shop 5, Alexander Tatyanin, who scored 71 points, the second prize was won by Senior Operator of the reactor compartment of RTC 2, Alexey Obryvkin (60 points) and the third prize went to Engine Operator of pumping facilities of the support systems shop, Olga Saratova (57 points). Among the engineering and technical workers, the best result was shown by Shift Chief of the electric shop, Alexander Rybachev (86 points), RTC 1 Engineer, Andrey Mikhailov, won the second prize (71 points), and the third prize went to Shift Chief of the support systems shop, Igor Snegovskiy (67 points). The contest participants, who won the first three prizes, were awarded with medals.
Strict abidance by OSH rules and standards is the key to success of the enterprise, therefore such contests are held annually at all nuclear power plants of the country, then the winners take part in the final stage of the contest among the plants, which is organized by the Concern Rosenergoatom. This year the final stage of the contest will be held at Smolensk NPP from 18 to 21 of September.

It has become a tradition that the contest among the plants is held at that plant, which representative is a winner of the previous year. We wish our two winners of the qualifying contest for the knowledge of labor safety rules success and good luck in the forthcoming final, and we hope that the final stage of the contest of 2013 will be held at Novovoronezh NPP.

Novovoronezh NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is situated on the bank of the Don river at 42 km south of Voronezh. It is the first NPP in Russia, which operates reactors of VVER-type (Vessel type Pressurized Water Reactor with light water under pressure). Each of the five plant reactors are prime Р a prototype of serial power reactors: No.1 power unit operates on VVER-210-type reactor, No.2 power unit Р VVER-365, No.3,4 power units Р VVER-440, No.5 power unit Р VVER-1000. At present, three power units are under operation (units 1 and 2 were stopped in 1984 and 1990, respectively).
