On October 4, 2012 on the day of the 80th anniversary of the Civil Defense, the Mobilization Training Department of the Civil Defense and Emergencies and the Radiation Safety Department of Novovoronezh NPP took part in the All-Russian Exercise on civil defense on ТThe Implementation of Priority Activities on Civil Defense by the Federal Executive Bodies, Executive Authorities of the Russian Federation Constituent Entities and Local Government BodiesУ.

The main purpose of the exercise was to check the preparedness of actions of NV NPP Civil Defense Departments under conditions of man-induced and natural disasters, as well as the team work of the executive authorities of the urban district Novovoronezh City with relief workers. During the exercise the particular attention was paid to the proper actions of residents of the city in special situations.

 ТAs part of the training, by the request of the city Administration, the personnel of the Mobilization Training Department of NV NPP established and set ready the points of the population registration and evacuation, as well as individual protection clothing issuing points,У said Head of  the Mobilization Training Department of the Civil Defense and Emergencies of NPP, Vladimir Akimov. In addition, we have established the laboratory for automated radiation checkout system, which is available only at the plant.У

The critical moment of the exercise was the demonstration of possibilities of the mobile communications center of the nuclear power plant based on KAMAZ, the use of which may provide communication up to Moscow.

 ТThe interaction of the Ministry for Civil Defense, Emergency Management and Natural Disasters Response with the authorities and NV NPP is already worked out, there is no doubt,У Head of Administration of the urban district Novovoronezh City, Sergey Chestikin, commented on the workout. ТThe main thing in our todayХs exercise is to bring the cooperation of all authorities with the population under natural and man-induced disasters to automatic performance in order to be ready for any situations.У

The participants of the exercise, as well as observers, made sure that if necessary, the Ministry for Civil Defense, Emergency Management and Natural Disasters Response, in cooperation with the executive authorities, is able to perform the task of protection of Novovoronezh city population at the highest level.



Novovoronezh NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is situated on the bank of the Don river at 42 km south of Voronezh. It is the first NPP in Russia, which operates reactors of VVER-type (Vessel type Pressurized Water Reactor with light water under pressure). Each of the five plant reactors are prime Р a prototype of serial power reactors: No.1 power unit operates on VVER-210-type reactor, No.2 power unit Р VVER-365, No.3,4 power units Р VVER-440, No.5 power unit Р VVER-1000.

The radiation background in the area of the plant and adjacent territory corresponds to the level of power unitsХ normal operation and does not exceed the natural environmental values.
